Generally I'm a very organized person, but Creativity isn't always a great partner with Order...It usually likes to hang out with the cooler and more dangerous Chaos.

Frankly though, Chaos was starting to feel like an unwelcome guest, as you can see from the images below:

So I've organized and moved my art space..this new location is great because I can have my computer there for goofing around...I mean....Multi Tasking ;) Seriously, my work at ArtTrader Magazine demands a creative atmosphere, and going back and forth between graphic design and physical art is great. Here is the new set up:

Well I got Potbellyart's Moleskine in the mail several days ago, and my back has gotten better to the point where I can sit for about a half hour at a time!

So I worked on four pages. She requested a color scheme of Lime, Pumpkin, Gold, Scarlet and Peacock (a dark turquoise, or light teal) and I used a great Korean newspaper the nice lady at the local Asian market gave me for free *happy dance*

I finally have a new camcorder! For ages I used a little Samsung camera that have movie recording capability, but it only recorded about 10 minutes of tape before it had a seizure. I now have a Sony Handycam that will record about 2.9 hours before the battery dies!

I'm so thrilled because this will make filming my workshops SO much easier *dances*

On an artistic note, I just made two more "Hands" For Adriyna's swap at iATCs. I have actually painted them, rather than add collage elements:

The Color Brown

I really like the color Brown. It's can be really soothing, it is the color of earth, and it can also make other colors look really good - much like the color black does, but with less drama, tradition and pretension.

I don't really use the color enough in my drawn/painted art, certainly not as a major color in most of my color schemes. If something is naturally brown, I make it brown. Or I will use brown for a shadow, but it never really gets the spotlight and I don't consciously make an effort to use it.

So I have a new color resolution: Use more brown!

Other people have used browns to great effect, click on their names to see their art at ETSY!

Today I was working on mermaids, and made this doll from my tempates.

I seriousy could not resist putting wings on her!

Ever since I joined ColourLovers a year or two ago I have had a blast using their tools to create color schemes. A while back they started a pattern tool and I really wish they would get more designs for it!

I have made some mixed media art dollies for the Color Exploration Workshop I'm giving. The Circus Dollie is a yellow/orange/turquoise trichromatic scheme and the Marie Antoinette Dollie is Pink/Brown/ turquoise!

I got the butterflies from Cassi's Creations.

Aren't they cute? I used them for my banner!

Inspiration

I was thinking earlier about where people get inspiration. I know I get it from other art, but to keep it personal and more original, I was thinking of areas outside other art to gain inspiration.

First off, what do I like to make art of? Well, I really like the human form, so the next logical connection seems like dance! In Dance people move in such amazing ways! BUT I was also looking at Tai Chi and found the Fan Form, it's really cool! I want to try and learn it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D5RzZC0aB6I

Hopefully in the next few days I can post some art based on some of the movements.

Of Fae and Angels

Well, I have been a busy bee lately! I am working on art work for sale, and a lot of things for the Mail Art sites I am involved with.

So, a run down...

I am currently hosting a Garden Angel chunky swap at ATCsForAll.com

I used Russian (?) text pages and colored them with acrylic paints. The shading detail was done with colored pencils.

I'm also hosting a Flower/Plants Fairy/Queen Swap at IllustratedATCs.com
These were colored with marker, but the background and shading was done with prismacolor colored pencils. I really like the way these pencils blend, especially when you apply a lot of heavy pressure.

I've been making so many of these lately, I figure I'll just post a kind of "best of" to give the gist of the swaps I've been working in... To the left here is a card I've made for a "Sacred Heart" swap.. The Sared heart is usually portrayed with Flames, wings, thorns and a crown. It is a Christian religious symbol that has been adapted by a lot of bikers and tattoo artists I've found O_o

Below is a card I've made for a Surrealism swap, he's got a lightbulb in his mouth so he can read at night haha..
And below....this is Sigfred...I'm not really sure what he is...He's for the "Colorful Wonderful Swap" And he is at least pretty dang colorful...

And last but not least is a card I've made for the Colorful Southwest Swap I'm hosting at www.ATCsForAll.com All of these cards (except the Sacred Heart card withch is acrylic and ink)) were made with markers and ink.

I thought I would share a current work in progress. I have found lately that music hasn't been my usual successful source for creative inspiration that is usually is. So I have been forced to seek inspiration from somewhere else (because I seriously have to look for it, it won't come to me!)

I decided to use the English language and think of words that inspire beautiful images. One great website I was told about is The 100 Most Beautiful Words in the English Language

But in the end I found that "snow" and "Poppy" evoked some creative feeling and went with them. And so I've ended up with what you see here. I plan on keeping parts white, and adding blue and peach skin tones/shading. Then making the poppy a orange red...or maybe a pink red, I haven't decided!

On another note, the Whimsy workshop has been going great! We've had awesome feedback from folks and we had a lot more signups than originally planed for! And now everyone is signing up for the Whimsy II workshop! Both workshops are available online, there are really no specific 'class' dates. So anyone can take it and fit it in with their schedule. Red was the focus of this tip-in page. I painted cardstock with red acrylic paint, and used punchenello and red chalk ink to create the circle pattern. Then I took dark green chalk ink to darken the edges. I drew the figure with prismacolor colored pencils, cut the heart out of scrapbook paper (red with distressed sheet music), darkened the edges with the green chalk ink and made 'stitches' with a white gel pen. I painted the text with orange red acrylic liquitex (yes, this is a sin against Golden..I'll say a few Hail Mary's..). I outlined the lettering with silver gel pen. last touch was adding a little white highlight to the figure's eye with the white pen.

These ladies were made for a Purple, Teal and Cream themed 4x4 swap. After the varnish dries, Eyelets and Fibers will be added. I used layered paper to create the backgrounds, but you can't tell very well...obviously I need to experiment more...
